freebie: cu 3D items

Good morning!

So I finally subscribed to Photoshop CC (and Lightroom) with Adobe’s $9.99 a month program and I LOVE it (still haven’t uninstalled CS6 yet, keeping that on the computer just in case…but I’m not sure what the ‘just in case’ is LOL).  The things CC can do are amazing.  Just the guides alone made me fall in love with it (the pink lines you see as you’re positioning objects), plus the fact that with every single new update they add to photoshop, I get it.  No more buying the next version every year….they just send out the updates and I use it as long as I’m subscribed.

I wanted to sit down last night and take a little time to figure out how the 3D aspect of the program works.  So I found THIS TUTORIAL and got to work.  It was easy to follow along with, until I got to the end where he had you change the IBL lighting…I didn’t quite do that part right so I skipped that and just rendered what I had.  I tried it with text and then with custom shapes, which you’ll find below.  Not sure what happened on the first 3D item I tried, the word Love, but there’s a white line on the inside of the L and on the E, but aside from that it’s a very usable piece of word art.  The line of hearts I did on my second try came out much better.

You can grab the word LOVE and the heart line below for free…no commercial use license is needed so you can use these however you’d like 😉

Just click the LOVE image once, it will open on it’s own page with a white background (don’t worry, it’s a transparent png and you’ll see that after you download it and open it) and then right click and save it to your computer.  After you do that, click the ‘back’ button on your browser to come back and grab hearts…

3D-Love

If anyone has played around with the 3D option in Photoshop and knows of any other good starter tutorials, feel free to link me up to them in the comments section.  I’ll be searching around for more tutorials to try again today, I think I’m hooked on the 3D option!  If you’ve done any 3D renders yourself, link me up to an image of what you’ve created in the comments as well, I’d love to see it!

Enjoy 😀
