The last time I tried to download from Mediafire, my computer went nuts with malware warnings. That might be related? Not sure. Good luck figuring it out!
I have the same issue with them, and decide to move on. I prefer Dropbox now <3
Hi, Heather,
I got an e-mail, once, from MediaFire, telling me that some of my files were being disputed as copyright infringement by someone. This someone was some security firm that looks for theft of their clients’ designs/content. MediaFire’s procedure was to put a hold on the account until the matter was resolved. The e-mail, in addition to my files, had probably 100 other files this firm were claiming as infringed. I went off on a guy from MediaFire until he explained that he is only the middle man, so to speak. He doesn’t know who’s is whose. I did apologize.
I had an option of responding to said ‘accusation and demand to remove’ promptly, then, they had two weeks to do anything more. They never got back with me, so, I let MediaFire know and they unblocked my account.
I don’t know that this is what happened, but, freezing one’s account is what they do if someone is making a claim against any of your stuff.
If you have other e-mail accounts, I would make sure you haven’t received an e-mail, (check your SPAM, too), similar to the one I got, or, someone claiming copyright infringement.
It made me mad that someone was claiming my stuff was theirs. Per the guy at MediaFire, he said some people feel the claimant should pay to file a take down notice, but, then, why should an artist have to pay if it is his/her design?
As it happened, there was a lady who had an account with M.F. This firm, or another, filed a take down notice against her and her account was frozen. As it so happened, she relied on the files in M.F. to conduct her business. So, this was costing her an income. I believe she took the firm to court. I found the firm’s website and read other stuff about them and, evidently, they are quite an annoying group of people, running around the web, filing false claims against people who have ANYthing that even remotely resembles their clients’ crap!
I sincerely hope things turn out okay.
Su
Thanks for letting us know!
I appreciate you letting us know Heather. I know that Rita from the CoffeeShop Blog had a problem with her MF a/c but it was related to what Su Hall was talking about. Some company was claiming that the promo images for one of her actions (at least I think that is what it was if memory serves me correct) was their property–funny considering it was an image of her son taken with her camera! Thankfully she got it resolved and I hope that you get your particular problem resolved quickly too! Best of luck to you.
omg… we have security firms checking on original artwork.. but the Russians can hack into just about anything? What’s up with that!
Hope mediafire gets it’s act together, cause I know they make $$ on those ads!
